Faculty of optometry and visual science is the first one in Sudan. It is considered the most deep-rooted college in Africa and Arab world; it is an expansion of high institute of optometry and visual science which had been established in 1954, and developed to faculty of optometry and visual science in 1997. The college is endeavoring to attain distinctiveness in optometry science through modernization of curriculums, developing the methods of training, encouraging the scientific research and community ministration and innovation. As well the college is endeavoring to develop its infrastructures and installations, to provide good ambience to attract students and relevant potently foundations, to become one of the effective institutions in combating blindness in Sudan and neighboring countries, through the awareness and assess the medical and health services in optometry field. The master programs in the college include: contact lenses, binocular vision, primary eye care, low vision, medical photography, pediatric optometry and neurology of vision. The college also be awarded diploma in ophthalmic dispensing and ophthalmic technology. There are pursuits to develop the diploma programs to BSc.
