Introduction:
The ophthalmic dispensing and technology program is designed to prepare the students to qualify for bachelor degree in ophthalmic dispensing and technology. The curriculum is made up to insure that educational objectives are achieved in light of new developments in ophthalmic technology.
Mission:
The mission of this program is to educate, train and graduate ophthalmic dispenser who can make spectacle prescriptions, fit and supply spectacles and other optical appliances.
Academic Years:
Four years. Each year is composed of two semesters (16 weeks) ends with examinations.The ophthalmic dispensing and technology program is made up of theoretical and practical courses. The theoretical to practical courses ratio is 40%: 60% in the professionals.
Graduation:
Students are eligible to graduate when they have successfully completed the required courses according to the academic regulations of the university with credit hours not less than (130) and contact hours not less than (2944). Assessment of students is based on course and practical work, examinations, quizzes and projects. A cumulative grade is calculated for every student and recorded on a transcript.
Admission requirements:
1-The qualification for admission of the candidates for the training is a minimum of 70% in secondary school certificate including pass in math, physics, chemistry, computer science or geometrics.
2- Pass the faculty interview and medical examinations.
Intake of Students:
The annual intake is 50 students every year.
Duties of Ophthalmic Dispenser:
1- Check glasses as being ordered.
2- Take frame and facial measurement in relation to lenses.
3- Advice of lens types and style of the frames.
4- Marketing spectacles, contact lenses and other optical appliances.
5- Make adjustment and repair spectacle frame.
6- Management of the optical shop and optical labs.
7- Supply spectacle, contact lenses and other optical appliances.
8- Repair and make spare parts for dispensing instruments.
9- Design and manufacturing of spectacle lenses and frames.
10-Design and manufacturing of spectacle lenses and frames.
11-Manufacturing of contact lenses.
12-Deal with the technology of laser, solar energy and optical fibers.
