The Faculty of Economic and Social Studies (hereafter FESS) was part of the Faculty of Commerce of Cairo University - Khartoum Branch was founded in 1955. The ownership of the whole university was transformed to the government of Sudan in 1993. The Faculty continued to use the same name up to 1998, but as a result of the development of its curricula and the increasing number of its students and departments, the Faculty was reorganized and renamed the Faculty of Commerce and Economic and Social Studies. It was then composed of two schools: the School of Economics, which consisted of three departments – Department of Economics, Department of Political Science and Department of Sociology; and the School of Commerce which also consisted of three departments – Department of Business Administration, Department of Accounting and Department of Insurance. To keep pace with development and requirements of the labor market, the School of Economics seceded from the Faculty of Commerce and Economic and Social Studies in 2013 and became a faculty of its own right under the current name.
FESS aspires to become a leading faculty, which always keeps up with the global academic development in its various disciplines. Furthermore, it seeks to become a scientific research center, which could contribute to fulfillment of the needs of the Sudanese community and its development.
Providing high quality educational programs and carrying out scientific researches that are up to date and distinct and capable of providing the society with the knowledge and training frameworks and preparing highly qualified graduates for the public and private sectors in the fields of economics, political science, sociology and anthropology. And contribute to the enlightenment of society in the culture of the fields of economy, political science, sociology and anthropology through cultural and social activities and the development of awareness to preserve the environment and values.
